Sic

Sic: [sik]

Here's how to remember:

When you don't want to go to school, you make yourself SICk on purpose.  When you see "sic" in a book, it means that the error was left alone on purpose and should be left as is.

When do you think an appropriate time would be to use "sic" in your writing?

Sic is the Latin word for "thus" or "such."

It usually appears within brackets or parentheses and is good for showing an obvious error that was made from an original text and the "sic" lets the reader know that this is how the text is supposed to be written.

Which of the following is the correct way to write the word sic?

  1. (Sic)
  2. [Sic]
  3. "Sic"
  4. <Sic>
